#GCPMA16 Global Action Session: Notes

Mon, 10/24/2016 - 11:57

On 5th October, 2016, the Global Coffee Platform held its first Membership Assembly. One of the break-out groups of the Global Action session explored the need for the GCP's Global Progress Framework (GPF) and its role to measure individual and collective sustainability performance.

Some key findings from the session include:

  • Participants were interested in the session because:
    • Clarify the existing overlap between the GCP's GPF and the Sustainable Coffee Challenge (SCC).
    • Participate in the beyond certification discussion - what is impact, what is progress? How do you define progress?
    • Struggle for data, particularly common data
    • What do common KPIs look like?
    • The need to demonstrate impact
    • How to measure social issues, not quality.
  • GCP should become the knowledge hub of all regions - sharing of in-house data
  • The SCC is rather a call to action with the intention to lead to impact.
  • There is no need for two frameworks - they should be integrated into one that works for the entire sector.
  • The need to see impact through local engagement (rather than commitments), is vital. For progress and for learning, sharing, implementation.

Actions to be taken:

  • Clear agreement on collaboration and then communications of the GCP/SCC partnership

  • How to ensure the confidentiality of the data and quality?
